Reset imaging drum Q3964A in HP 2550

This is to clarify the procedure to reset the Q3964A imaging drum that is no longer working in Laserjet 2550 2550L 2550Ln. This may be somewhat of a duplicate posting, if so, sorry about that and credit goes to whoever first discovered it. This posting may help some people who were confused about this procedure or wheather it works at all.

As you know, the blinking image light for imaging drum indicates that the drum is at the end of life (according to HP) and the printer will not print. Actually, what it means is that HP is running low on CASH and is expecting you to pay for their next boat payment. The drum is probably plenty useful, and shouldn't you decide when the print quality is no longer acceptable to YOU, instead of some chip inside the cartridge with an arbitrary counter number?

Here is the procedure that will work if performed correctly (it may take several tries because timing of button presses is crucial). This procedure revived completely dead 2550L with flashing imaging drum light.

READ THROUGH THE PROCEDURE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT! Of course, as a standard disclaimer, use at your own risk. You are responsible for the consequences, blah, blah..

1) Ensure that all printer cartridges and the drum are installed

2) Printer - OFF with power button

3) GREEN GO BUTTON - HOLD

4) POWER BUTTON ON

5) The 3 lights above the green go button will go ON and then OFF (this will happen quickly, under 10 seconds, but may vary)

6) AS SOON AS THE LIGHTS ARE OFF - RELEASE GREEN GO BUTTON

7) IMMEDIATELY - PRESS AND HOLD RED CANCEL BUTTON

8) IMMEDIATELY - PRESS and HOLD CARTRIDGE SELECTION BUTTON

9) IMMEDIATELY - RELEASE both RED CANCEL BUTTON and CARTRIDGE SELECT BUTTON

That's all she wrote.
